The next step up from Pencil is Wacom's Bamboo Stylus Fineline ($59.95). Along with Mix, Paper also shares to Twitter, Facebook, Tumbler, compatible apps on your iPad as well as your Adobe Creative Cloud account. It is now compatible with a growing list of third-party apps including Procreate, Noteshelf, Autodesk's Sketchbook and soon Adobe's Illustrator Line, Illustrator Draw and Photoshop Sketch. Smartly, FiftyThree has made Pencil more than a single-use tool. Pencil is not a precision instrument, and you can see from the samples on FiftyThree's Mix social network that there is a tendency for things made with Paper to get a little mushy. The graceful flow of the line makes it easy to get in a flow state of mind. FiftyThree conceived of Paper first for fingers, but Pencil adds surface pressure sensitivity and a convenient built-in eraser to make the drawing process even smoother and more intuitive. Of course, you need to have an iPad3+, Air or mini with the free Paper app on it to be of any use. ![]() Pencil comes in striking graphite colored aluminum (on sale for $39.99 through 12/27) and solid walnut (sale price, $49.99). ![]() It looks like one of those carpenter's pencils that is designed not to roll off a two-by-four. Pencil is elegant in its utilitarian simplicity. The easiest and least expensive entree into the world of digital drawing comes from FiftyThree, the maker of the original Paper app.
